hard drive temperature
I am running a Dimension 8300, Service Tag: 9MPPR21. It has a Seagate hard drive. I just started running HDD Health, and it is showing the drive as overheating.
What IS too high a temperature for this drive? When I boot up it is in the 30's C, my house is currently 80 F, and now after running for awhile the drive is at 46 C. (This agrees with another little temperature-sensing program I just ran.) Last night it got over 50 C and the program told me it could crash, so I shut it down.
Is there a problem with the drive, or is it a side-effect of the current hot weather and my lack of air conditioning? And do I need to get one of the hard drive cooling products I see advertised on the web?
I've seen mention on the boards of Dell diagnostics. I looked through all the cd's that came with the computer, and the only one that mentions diagnostics turns out to just have modem diagnostics. Is there something more useful that I can download from Dell?
