HDD Error code
I have a dell Studio Hybrid 140g. I ran into a problem installing Windows Office 2007, the install hung and said there was a disk error. I cannot run chkdsk because it says there is a problem with a recent software install and to do a restore point. Restore won't work because it says there is a problem with the hard drive. I ran the dell diagnostics and get the following error messages: error code 4400:011a msg:USB_Disk_0_:_multicard_Target not ready.
With continuing to run the same diagnostics past that point, other errors show up-- I get the same wording but different numbers: 4400:051a, 4400:031a, and 4400:041a
Any ideas? Is that a hard drive problem, an I/O problem, or what?

I booted to the utility partition, chose custom testing, and chose the hard drive. That is the test that gave me that error. There are no drives attached to any usb port on the computer, just printers. I didn't know whether or not that was an i/o error for the hard drive. It seems to run fine otherwise. I just can't install Office 2007 which is what started this whole fiasco. The unit is no longer under warranty, and yes my data is being backed up. I can clone the drive as well, but if it is an I/O problem that won't help. The chkdsk utility won't run even at bootup. The system is dead stock except I upgraded to WIn7.

Hi Mborodc,
That message appears to refer to a USB drive. When you perform the diagnostics, you need to choose custom test, which will allow you to select a specific component to test. Do that and choose just your hard drive.
I should also encourage you to back up your important data if you have not done so. Also let me know if your system is still under warranty.
