Inspiron 8600 - hard drive failed
Last week it was: Is the 60 GB Hard Drive realy bad?
Consensus was Yes, replace it.
I obtained a new 120 GB hard-drive and placed in portable.
This portable is a refurbished unit obtained from Dell in August 2005 with one year Dell warranty.
I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 Owners Manual and 6 CD diskettes that were included with the original order. Windows XPHSP2 was already installed.
Replacing the Hard Drive by the book. At a point it refers me back to the "Operating System CD"....
If it is referring to the original Window XPH cd, I do not have it. I am told that there is not one.
I am helping my Son on this.
Is it likely that a XPHSP2 CD was shipped with unit or is there an alternative procedure for me to follow.
The Dell/Microsoft ID sticker with the code is in place on the bottom of the portable.
I'm open minded so tell it to me straight.
