The lady at Dell told me to use the 2y054 Power supply the psu your link gives me doesn't list that particular one but says that it is the unit for dim 4600 so i assume it will work. i am going to give it a try

I ordered power supply thru link suggested and replaced. It wasn't too difficult to switch but there were extra cords and plugs with generic replacement and so it's a little difficult to know exactly plug goes to which drive and if it matters etc. After replacing my computer did start right up so I'm pretty sure  that was my problem. However my cd drive does not work or is not recognized and so I think I may have to take apart again and check connections etc. I'm pretty glad to have computer working for now and again appreciate the help. Do you think i have it hooked up wrong as for as the harness as after the mainbig white plug there seemed to be two options and for cd drive and floppy drive but both had extra ends so we kind of huessed also not sure if cd drive plug seated well as it was didn't connect as easily as other plugs seemed to. As you can probably tell this was the first time I had computer apart so we were almost surprisewd when it started back up. I agree with other posters that this site is great and much more helpful than customewr service.
