Dell Support Assistant software is not working properly. I believe it is related to a recent BIOS update. The message "We Can't continue with this action until your PC restarts. Restart, then try again." continually appears when checking for updates. Restarting the system results in the same message.
This problem exists since 2023. It never fixed. I've tried many solutions in past years, re-installed, no luck.
The "Dell Update" app threatening me that it will be expired and I have to use "Dell Support Assistance" but it's not been working since I purchased my PC.

Hi jaysanati:
Instead of restarting your computer try DGPickett's 26-Jul-2026 suggestion in mark91345's We can't continue with this action until your PC restarts to simply close SupportAssist and relaunch the application from your Start menu (I assume that's what they mean by "killing" SupportAssist) to see if this allows SupportAssist to run correctly.

That "Support for Dell Update ends on December 31,2024" warning first appeared in the Dell Update v5.3.0 interface in May 2024. See my 09-May-2024 topic Support for Dell Update / Alienware Update Ending December 2024 and my 02-Apr-2025 post <here> in that topic about how updates continued to be released well past that December 2024 deadline.
I no longer have Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.5.0 installed on my system (I refuse to install the buggy, bloated SupportAssist application *** and don't really need Dell Update anymore because Dell stopped releasing updates for my Inspiron 5584 BIOS and hardware drivers) so I don't know if v5.5.0 will be the final release for this particular edition of Dell Update. However, several Dell models that are compatible with the "classic" Dell Command | Update (DCU) v5.x application and/or "modern" Dell Command | Update for Windows Universal v5.x UWP app are currently on v5.7.0 (rel. 15-Apr-2026) - for example, see the release notes <here> for the DCU v5.7.0 UWP app for a list of compatible models.
I would like to see Dell either remove or revise that "Support for Dell Update ends on December 31,2024" warning in the Dell Update v5.x interface and revise their support article Dell Update and Alienware Update - Overview and Common Questions to clarify their plans for end-of-support for their various Dell Update utilities.
*** NOTE: See my 08-Feb-2025 post in ygil’s BSOD Issues After Windows Updates for further details on how I replaced the functionality of ALL my SupportAssist-related applications with other software.
I have replied but I tried to edit it and accidentally deleted it. In any event, as I finished posting I noticed that suddenly Windows Update wanted a restart to finish installing firmware version 1.8.0; So I restarted and it duly flashed the UEFI/BIOS but SA still won't check for updates with reason: "We can't continue this action until your PC restarts. Restart, then try again."
@DELL-Nat M Yes, please go on for the new version of SA. My system: Area-51m R2 with Windows 11. SA is also hanging in my case regarding the Software-Update-Check, the rest of the routine (e.g. Hardwarescan, etc.) is running and working well. Also no more Dell Client Management Service installed, I saw. It cannot be re-installed with W11, neither the package itself, nor with re-installing SA. Thank you for your help!
P.S.: Though W11 was not the origin-OS on my machine (was W10), W11 is working very well with all the other Dell-drivers. Only problem is the explained one above with SA and Client Management Service.
