Raid 1/0 for window host?

In one tech book it clearly indicated that RAID 1/0  is for mainframe use only in Symmtrix. But someone from EMC is telling us that Raid 1/0 can be used for any open systems including MS Windows. We are going to use VMAX for Window/MS Sql server.

Correct.  That is what the RAID1/0 is on MF.  On MF four mirrored logical volumes (8 drives) are put together on the front end and presented as one.  If you created a 4 way striped meta on top of 4 mirrored FBA devices, you would have the same thing.

RAID1/0 is frequently used to describe a mainframe volume type, which is really just a very specific meta volume configuration for CKD.  You can create a FBA meta on top of RAID1 which would do the same thing.

Are you referring to create a stripped metevolume on top of a few hypervolumes which are RAID 1?

    thanks

A FBA meta volume looks like a single LUN to a windows host.  It would have no idea how many Symmetrix logical volumes it actually resided on.

A single Symmetrix mirrored logical is on two disks, and isn't striped.  You need a minimum of 4 drives to support RAID1/0

thanks and I am now very clear on this striped meta for Raid1/0. But one more related question, can you actully create Raid1/0 on the single LUN (hypervolume) for window hosts?
