I've just purchased a bare, ERA/0 daughterboard for a PE2600. This is not a replacement; I'm adding the daughterboard to a machine that doesn't have one. The daughterboard I bought was bare-bones; it came with nothing. I've DLed install instructions, and the instructions show the daughterboard screwed to mounting pillars. I haven't been inside the server yet, but I'm guessing that there are no screws there. Has anyone added a duaghterboard to a PE2600? How did you handle this? Were the screws already there? Did you leave them out or bring your own screws, and if so, what size, and how many? I'm only going to get one shot at this, and I want to go on site with everything I need.
Thanks for posting! You should get different instructions, because the ones you have are wrong. There are no screws attaching the ERA/O to the system board, it just fits on some posts. It will attach just under the PCI slot guide to a special connector on the system board. Here is a link to documentation including an installation guide:
Scenario: I have two ERA cards for two servers at two locations. I want to connect to these servers through the ERA cards from home over the internet. At one location I have a spare, routable IP, so I will assign that to the ERA card. At the other location, I don't have a spare, routable IP. Can I assign the ERA an IP from my router, then connect to the ERA over the internet by setting up a rule to forward port 5900 to that IP?
I strongly recommend you do not expose the ERA to the internet! The consequences for somebody finding that IP with malicious intent are quite dire if they manage to hack the interface. I suggest you use a VPN router to control access to the LAN, and then from there you can access the ERA.
Good thought. I've assigned a very complex password to the ERA, so I think it's okay.
The client is financially constrained, so a VPN endpoint isn't an option. We have to make use of what we have. So anybody have any thoughts on how to connect to the ERA through the router?
