Removing Capability Profile

Hello All,

We are currently utilizing a 300F and have run into an issue where our extreme and performance tiers have filled up and based on our having a gold capability profile the data is not relocating to the capacity tier. The tech that I worked with is suggesting that we tear down the existing capabilty profile and build another as the thought is that doing so will allow for relocation to the capacity tier.

Is anyone here familiar with this and can you share with me what impact tearing this capabilty profile will have on the system, e.g will our vvols lose connectivity to vcenter, will there be data loss? The tech isn't sure either and I thought I would bounce this off of some of you here as well.

    Hello onlineserv,

You can remove a CP from your vvol, what you need to make sure of is that this can only used on capability profiles that are not currently in use by existing virtual volumes.  Here is a link to Dell EMC Unity FamilyConfiguring vVols which has some additional information.

    Hi Sam,

This Capability Profile is currently in use by existing virtual volumes. Would your comment suggest that I cannot remove this and create another in its place?

    Hello onlineserv,

You can remove and replace a capability profile.  In your case it would be best to create the new cp and assign it to the volume and then remove the old cp.
