»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» EndReply - Hi, fantomx,
Thanks for posting that log. You mentioned that your computer was infected by "stuff". After we run this part of the fix please describe any remaining problems. If you are being redirected to any websites or getting pop-ups, please give us a few more details other than "stuff".
Okay, here we go....
** Make sure ScriptBlocking is still disabled or it may prevent this script from running.
Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.
If you have not done so already, please download the trial version of Ewido Anti-malware 3.5 from here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
- Install Ewido Anti-malware.
- When installing, under Additional Options uncheck Install background guard and Install scan via context menu.
- When you run Ewido for the first time, you could get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click Ok.
- The program will prompt you to update. Click the Ok button.
- The program will now go to the main screen.
- On the left-hand side of the main screen click the Update Button.
- Click on Start.
http://download.ewido.net/ewido-signatures-full-current.exe
Once finished updating, close Ewido.
Make sure to close Ewido before installing the update.
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
* If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
* Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
* Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
* Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
* Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
* Login on your usual account.
______________________________
Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.
A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if your computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.
The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save Report.

Let me know how things are running.Reply - Thanks for the help...but I have another question. I have Vista Beta 2 installed on another partition, and I have no idea how to get into Safe Mode in XP anymore. When I use the F8 method, it only opens the boot menu for Vista. I tried highlighting the XP selection in the main boot menu and pressing F8, but that doesn't work, either. So...what do I do? I guess if it comes down to it, I don't really mind reformatting, and I heard that was the only way to get rid of Vista Beta 2 without any problems, but I'd rather not have to reformat if possible.
Reply - For now, try running the fix in Normal mode.
As far as Vista, here is a forum where you can ask questions:
http://castlecops.com/f203-Windows_Vista_and_Longhorn.html
CNET has a Vista forum, too, but it is very new:

Please disable your Symantec Script Blocking from within your Norton so it does not interfere with anything during our fixes now or later. You can enable this whenever we have verified that your system is clean.
To disable Norton AntiVirus Script Blocking:
1. Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program.
2. Click Options.
If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.
3. In the left pane, click Script Blocking.
4. In the right pane, uncheck Enable Script Blocking (recommended).
5. Click OK.
Next
Please go here
And Download SmitFraudFix by S!riExtract all the archive content to your desktop
• Search:
o Double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
o Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Open that file, Ctrl+A to copy, and post a copy of that log as a reply to this thread
Do Not run option 2 until instructed to do so
