Storage Pool Behavior
A week ago my 19 TB storage pool got completely used up (how that happened is another story) and my VMware environment came to a standstill. An EMC engineer helped my reclaim enough space to get things running again, around 600 GB. And I ordered another shelf of drives. We also created a small storage pool out of four unused drives, about 900GB.
The next morning when I checked I found the main storage pool was down to only 39 GB free, about where it was when it freaked out before. No one had created any VM's or anything to take the space. I could not get an EMC engineer for advice so I deleted the small storage pool. For some reason I do not understand that freed up about 600GB on the main storage pool, so we were out of hot water again. The next day I checked, and there was 2,4 TB of free space, and it still does today. I do not understand where that free space came from. I don't much believe in magic so there has to be an explanation and I was hoping someone would know. My LUNS are thin, if that makes a difference. Thanks!
