All internet applications will not open
Hi, I have been having problems with my computer since approximately Friday after Thanksgiving. I cannot open any internet applications. I can click them and they start to open- the window opens up, and it starts to open the page, but as the page is opening it suddenly closes...just disappears. This is the same with instant messenger, media player, and most windows. The ones I can still open are control panel ones and other such similar windows. I also cannot open any help windows...the same thing happens as with the internet ones. I have done many virus scans and I have also done a "stinger" scan as I was told to do by someone on the phone from Mcafee. No viruses have been found, and upon searching my computer I cannot find any program or anything that might explain this.
Oh, I forgot to mention...occasionally a little error screen will pop up randomly the says error in the top subject heading and the message just says: Explorer! I click OK and it goes away. I am thinking these are somehow connected.
I have also done a "spybot" scan several times, and no results.

Hi, thanks for your response. However, I can do none of the things you suggested (other than system restore which was wroking already). I cannot open the internet in order to download these things you told me to download in order to fix my problem.luaddiction

Yeah, thanks to both of you. I did just what you suggested and used a CD (I had to wait for one from someone else as I did not have one, or else I would have done so sooner). Turns out that was all I needed...the ad aware program...I had a whole lot of programs on my computer that I did not want and everything seems to be working fine. Thanks a lot for your help, it is much appreciated.- You seem to be able to access the internet to read these forums and post messages. Why not donwnload the files Denny suggested to the computer you are using to read this, then copy the files to floppy disks or a CD-R, then walk the floppies or CD-R disk to the computer that is ginving you problems, copy the files onto that computer, install them, and run them.

The first thing to try is System Restore to return your system to its state before the onset of the problem. If that does not correct things, you might do a scan with Ad-aware which detects things that Spybot does not.
If that does not rectify the problem download HijackThis from here. Run it and post the log it generates at http://forums.tomcoyote.org/ where the experts can analyze it and provide corrective measures.
