I'm running Vista on an Inspiron 1200. I want to uninstall PowerDVD 5.1, but when I try, I receive a message that the program is made to run in Windows 200, XP or later... I guess the PowerDVD uninstaller can't work in Vista. Any ideas how I can uninstall it without leaving a huge mess in the registry?
Yes, PowerDVD 5.1 is not compatible with Vista. Did you run the upgrade advisor prior to installing Vista? If you had it would have told you to remove this program before installing / upgrading to Vista. The only advice I can give you would be to locate the "uninstaller for PowerDVD " then right click it and go to properties and tell the system to run it as Win XP SP2 compatibility mode, and I don't even know if that will work.
You may be able to manually remove the software though you may need to contact support at cyberlink's powerdvd site to find out how. Also sometimes installing the latest version over top of the older version you have will work.
I had the same problem. It seems that programs with drivers that aren't campatible can't be uninstalled. for me it waqs PowerDvd, Sonic Dvd and Creative Audigy Sound .
Unless they come out with patches soon and don't hold you breath you will hace to do what i did a CLEAN INSTALL. The good news is that Vista installed good drivers for all my stuff and I didn't have to use any from Dell.
