I recently bought a XPS 400 from Dell and have had several software conflicts..they told me to reinstall Win XP Media Center and have lost the ability to use PC restore that is supposed to be on the computer and several other applications after they assured me when i did the reinstallation I would still have pc restore on my computer. Help? I just get the runaround from the supposedly great customer serice team....
I know about this award winning support. I'm just wondering what award it was:smileymad: Anyway I've never been able to make it work either but I'm definitely on it's trail. check out this website for a lot of good info and possibly a solution to yours and possibly mine. When I ran these procedures I come up missing a file, sr.sys. I have all my original disks and it doesn't seem to be on them so I don't think I got all of my disks but trying to find out from dell is like pulling teeth (in a lion!). So if you run these and you happen to have this file I would like a copy. Hopefully we can help each other out:smileytongue: http://forum.worldstart.com/showthread.php?t=78891&referrerid=18020
Good luck and happy 'puting

PS
What is XPS? I have a dell dimension 4700 P4 3.2GHz
My recommendation is to go into Add/Remove programs and remove everything that seems unneccesary and see if that fixes your problem.
PS- I've read that Corel may even be an offender.
You can also go into your windows startup files by clicking RUN on the start menu and typing "msconfig" (w/o the quotes). Then go to the startup tab and uncheck (disable) everything that isn't windows or antivirus related. Most of those programs are unnecessary and offer little to no value (faster program loading or they launch the program automatically under certain conditions) but use system resources and raise potential incompatibility issues while they're loaded in the background. If you accidently disable something that's actually important you'll be able to get back into the msconfig window and check it back on. No dammage done!
Sorry long time in posting..XPS is a dell9150? I think thats what they call it. Also, great info on the dell partition..but how do I boot from the cd I burn to run the program? Would I look in advanced settings? or boot startup? Running WinXP media center 05 on my system
Well I got the utility to work and finally got this problem fixed!! Thanx for all your help u guys..I would never had fixed this if it wasn't for ur awesome partition info!!!
Well glad to see your going, incidently in my quest for that sr.sys file I ran across a very neat utility that you might want to put in your bag of tricks, I did! t's called File System Checker. You go to Start>Run type in "sfc /scannow", minus the quotes and then enter. It checks all the neccessary windows system files and makes sure they are present and not corrupted. If there are it asks you, for the appropiate disks and fixes the problem, very, very cool utility.
Well glad to see ur found ur file!! Wish I knew of the utility u found before today..I had a corrupt windows file and had to call the great "service team" yet again lol. Sorry I wasn't able to help, but at least ya got the solution.
