Explorer.exe crashes frequently

I need some serious help with this, this has happened what seem like 50 times, I don't even send the error reports when explorer.exe crashes anymore because it happens too much. I have this error:

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.3156, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x01e21509.

This is immediately followed by this app error:

Fault Bucket: 491770104

My computer model is XPS/Dimension 400/9150 and I have no warranty, I've cleaned my registry with Registry Mechanic and I cleaned up my hard drive and I scanned my computer but to no avail, a temp file is always included with the error report, and it is always the same faulting app but the fault address always alternates, I need help with this and it is getting on my nerves. I don't feel like spending over 1,000 dollars in new hardware.

It is the worst problem I've had so far.

All I can say is it doesn't hurt to try.You can also use the command prompt, but first see if this works.

What catches my attention is that you cleaned the registry with registry mechanic and could have inadverently deleted a file.Caution needs to be excercised when using registry cleaners.

    Try start>run>sfc /scannow

Note the space after sfc before /

I'm very sorry to say, but I don't have a Windows XP Professional Disc, because they never sent one and I am very steamed about that, is that the only step I need to take, you know to fix this very diligent issue.

    Hello,

Have you run a complete Virus scan and Malware scan with the latest data files? If you do not have a good Malware detector, use the one provided by Microsoft, "Windows Defender" and can be downloaded from the Microsft website for free. This app works great. If you are running Norton or McAfee, this could be causing your problems.

Also, at what point did you start to receive the error messages? You could do a "system restore" to the point when everything seemed OK.

    Keep us posted.
