Fax

When sending a fax I don't get notification of the progress of the fax, and the fax console screen outbox is not dynamic, it remains static untill I close it and reopen the console.  The only way to tell if I have sent a fax is by closing the fax console and reopening it again.  I have checked all the boxes under tracking re: notification of progress of faxes, sounds, etc.,  but it has not helped.

Dell support has not helped either.

Any suggestions?

    flipper001,

What type of system are you using, what programs are you using, what error messages do you receive, what's been added to the system including hardware/software.  Please provide as much information as possible.

Also, what did our technical support group say about the issue.

I recently purchased the system, an Inspiron 5100.  The only thing added was a wireless card, added by Dell.

There is no error message.  I fax a document from Word and don't get any progress reports at all.  When I go to the fax console I can see what has been sent and the one in progress but that screen is static and does not change until I close the console and re-open it.  Then the faxes sent are updated.

I've gone to Fax Printer config and under the tracking tap have checked everything.  I've also checked sounds which I also don't get.  I even unchecked them and checked them again and pressed Apply.  Still does not work.

The system is faxing, but I'd like to see the progress as it occurs.

Support was no help at all.  I heard from one tech that Dell does not support it. Another told me it would cost me to get support on it even though it is a new system and doesn't work properly.  I am very unhappy with Dell's Tech Support - but that's another issue.

If you have any suggestions on how to get the tracking feature to work on the fax, I'd appreciate your help.

    Thank you.

I've been having the same exact problem. The fax monitor has only opened on one occasion showing me the progress of my fax. On another occasion, my phone rang & I got a alert balloon asking me if I wanted to receive/answer a fax or something to that effect. I haven't received anything since. I too have to close the fax console then reopen to see that the fax was sent succesfully. Also, on my tracking tab, I notice there is a red exclamation point. I believe this is a problem. This is very frustrating. I've been looking everywhere for a solution but have found none. There is nothing on the Microsoft website regarding this issue. I won't even bother calling Dell, that would be a headache and a half. Have you found a fix for this? I'm running Windows XP Dell Dimension 2400

In the tools menu of the XP fax console, if you click fax monitor, does it not open?

In Word, if you use File/send to fax recipient you get the Word fax wizard, but if you use File/print, then select the fax printer, the XP fax wizard opens. Using that, the monitor does appear when I click send at the end of the wizard. I haven' tried the Word fax wizard.

Yes, I can open it manually from the tools menu but it should pop open automatically when i send a fax. I've been scanning to fax from the Dell A940 printer. I haven't tried faxing from Word yet.

    Thanks for your reply,

I should have added that it also appears automatically if I send a fax directly from theXP fax console.

Since writing about my problem almost a year ago, the problem corrected.  I don't have any idea what I did, if anything, to get the fax program to notify me of faxes sent and the console to update dynamically.

Thanks for your reply. It really is a strange problem. I have Ad-Aware, Spy-Bot & Spyware Blaster installed on my computer. I thought perhaps that was the culprit. I unchecked all boxes in these programs, restarted my computer but still have the same problem. There is still a red exclamation point under the tracking tab. Oh well, guess I'll just use the BVRP software that came with my printer though I prefer fax console. Drives me crazy when something doesn't work properly.

    Thanks again,

    Jill

It drove me crazy for months, and I couldn't get any help from Dell on it.

    Good luck.
