    More information, please.
By default, the Recycle Bin is the only desktop icon in a Vista fresh install. To add more, right-click the desktop and select Personalize, then under Tasks on the lefthand side, choose Change Desktop Icons.

Kelly, you really have to provide more info, such as Dell model, type of internet connection (wireless or not), etc.

I thought you were having a problem with Vista, not XP.
You will need to install drivers for your hardware. Was your ethernet port/wireless device detected and drivers installed for it?

There is a driver CD that came with your Dell. Otherwise, you can download the individual files from Dell on the Support page after entering your system tag and selecting the operating system that need the drivers for.

    That would work.
TIP: I always rename the download .exe file to something recognizable since the Dell files have names like R233648.exe or something.

how do I reinstall the hardware that I need? I have no disks and it is not reading that I am wiresless ior internet ready when I installed the router it can not be detected....I have tried many times and I am becoming frustrated with it. They are going to try and do something else with it but i am nervous to let them touch it....
