Install XP over SP2
I read the following in PC MAG today. Is this true? If so, this is one more reason why I have not yet installed SP2. Besides, I now use Firefox and Thunderbird, and I love it.
"Once you upgrade to SP2, you won't ever be able to install the original version of Windows XP over it; you have thus rendered the ancient practice of reinstalling the operating system impossible."

What the article is referring to is a Repair Reinstall of Windows XP. If your original XP Reinstallation CD does not include SP2 and you have added SP2 to your computer, attempting to do a Repair Reinstall will produce an error message advising that the computer is using a newer operating system than the one you are attempting to repair. This can be readily overcome by producing a slipstreamed CD combining your original CD with SP2 (requires a few minutes of work and one CD-R disk).
SP2 does not prevent a clean reinstallation of XP using your non-SP2 XP Reinstallation CD.
SP2 does not prevent using Firefox (I don't use Thunderbird).
