First what you need to do is go here:

Enter your service tag on the bottom of your PC.

In the drop down box labeled "OS" select Windows 7.

If there is no Windows 7 in that box, you should look elsewhere for your drivers for windows 7 or reconcider, the Upgrade advisor can be wrong some times.

Dell don't even offer Vista drivers for the XPS Gen 3, never mind Windows 7 drivers, so you're own regarding drivers for anything Windows 7 doesn't install default drivers for.

I say I also have a xps gen 3 and I was disappointed. :emotion-6:

Dell list only the systems they have made driver sets, it doesn't mean they are not compatible.

Run the Intel Processor Identification utility and let me know to the processor to determine if its 64 Bit compatible use the following unofficial driver set:

I installed windows 7 on my xps gen 3 a couple of years ago and it's been working great.

It doesn't appear so. I attached the results for you to look at.

I'm also looking into LINUX but I need to read much more before I can seriously consider it.

This was brought on by the impending end of support for XP (32 bit for my home edition).

I also have a newer computer with win 8.1 so there is no hurry, but the old one still works fine and I'd like to keep it if I can find some good options.
