New Dell XPS with Vista. Can I safely install updated JAVA version from JAVA site? Seems I have Version 6 "oem" standard platform and JAVA site says I need to install new version.

Reason for this is I get syntax error on web pages and buddy said JAVAscript is to blame so get it fixed, but he also said should not overwrite any "oem" stuff that came with the computer. I'm confused.

Any help would be appreciated.
