login problems

I just put a password on my computer.  When I type it in to log on, an error pops up that does not expand all the way and it logs me off.  Basically,  I can't log on to my computer.  When I go into safe mode, it asks for an administrator's password, but I never set up a password for this so I don't know what it could be, and I've already guessed a lot of things.  Is there any way to reset the password or my system without losing everything so I can access my computer again?

I tried just hitting enter (leaving the field blank), but it says that is an incorrect password

Unless you reset the Administrator password it should be the null password, i.e. just leave the password field empty.

Try going into safe mode and into user accounts in the control panel. Once you are there click on change the way users log on/off which you will then have the option to change any passwords for any user on the computer ( administrator, guest and your profile if you have one created)
