so i decided to defrag my new system using the windows defrag tool under properties, clean up disk for the c drive. no reason to but thought, what the hey. ever since then my system is slower than molasses in january. opening or starting an app or program takes a few minutes no matter how long the computer's been running. when the task manager eventually starts up i don't see anything taking up massive amounts of cpu usage. i do notice that around 40-50% of my memory is used at any given time. could be those 60-some-odd processes vista uses now.
anyway if anyone has any ideas/suggestions/comments i would greatly appreciated your feedback. thanks!
the mistake was using the windows defrag tool. use (i think it's called) perfect disk. i doubt it's vista that's the issue... i think it's a huge misconception that vista takes up that much of anything.
you could also try running CCleaner to fix any registry problems as that could cause major slowdowns as well. that's free to download.
thanks for the quick response discostu! for some reason i thought i was safe using window's own defragger. i tried CCleaner and it has helped a bit, although my system is still a little laggy :-( maybe i'll run it again to make sure...
