Unmountable Boot Volume

I am occasionaly getting this message  on a blue screen.

"UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME"

"STOP: 0x000000ED (0x83795900, 0xc000009C, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)"

Can anyone offer any help to prevent this happening in future, what is this problem?

When it happens I can turn of my PC and switch on again in safe mode, but when windows actually opens it appears to be running in full windows mode, not safe mode?

I have laptop,  Inspiron 5150, P4 3.06GHz, Windows home edition, all fully up to date.

Likely your hard drive is failing.  Reboot, hit F12 to run Dell diagnostics on your hard drive, call Dell and report the failure code.
