Vista and Dell printer

I have a Dell A940 printer with a Toshiba laptop running Vista. I downloaded R153049 driver, but the printer will not print color. I have enough ink (1/2 full). It seems that the printer skips over any color images on the screen and leaves that part of the page blank, even if I ask it to print color images in black and white.

Have you used the printer regularly lately? Printer ink dries up easily, especially if the printer is not used for a while or is not turned off before you cut the power so the print heads "park" correctly. Did you try a Test Page? Can you do a nozzle cleaning--or whatever Dell calls it. All the printer, preferences settings correct? Are you printing from file or trying to print a web page? Web pages can skip images and color. Check File, Print Setup in your browser for the Options tab to see the selections. The forum has a Printer section under Peripherals that might have more suggestions.

I do not use my printer regularly, but have never had a problem with it before getting my new computer with Vista. I tried a Test page, which prints out nicely, but only in black and white. Is there a certain place to get a printed color test page? I did a cleaning. I am printing from a file, not a web page. I'm guessing the preferences are correct. I think the ink cartridge is still good because I soaked it in hot water and then rubbed it on a towel, and all the colors appeared bright. I'll post this in the printer section as well. Thanks!

What could possibly be the problem??

your printer utility should have a test for colour - in fact when it prints out the nozzle check test, it should include your cmyk and black inks.
