Have now determined that I have never received any windows vista updates since it was installed. This could be the problem in trying to access the full version of google as the network will not allow me to access https://mail.google.com. How do I resolve this?
I doubt that a lack of Vista updates is preventing you to view that web page. I would assume it is a firewall or Internet Options setting in IE7 that is preventing access.
Did you enable POP in your Google Mail if you are trying to access it with a Mail Program?
Set up automatic updates in Start==>Control Panle==>Classic view==>Windows Updates. Enable automatic updates. make sure you leave your computer overnight because the default time for downloads is 3 AM. You can change that.
Disable Google Desktop or uninstall it and try to update again. The latest version of Google addresses this, but uninstall it anyway. You don't need Google desktop with vista, IMO. It causes too many problems.
I uninstalled google desktop. Still get the code 8024402C message when I try to update though. When I look back on update message history my first failure was code 643. Details on this are below:
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB929729)
Installation date: 11/16/2007 4:16 PM
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 643
Update type: Important
A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system running the Microsoft .NET Framework and gain complete control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.
