Windows installer 3.1 error

I have been trying to install Sony Vegas 8 on a Dimension 2400 Pentium 4 with 1gb of memory. I am running XP home with service pack 2. The install goes fine to the very end where it tries to install the Windows 3.1 installer. At the very end I get a "requirements not met" error and the install stops. I have been all over the Microsoft site looking for help on this and tried dozens of things. Nothing has worked. Would appreciate any suggestions or ideas.

Thanks for the response. I have all of the requirements with the possible exception of the NET Framework. Not sure what that is or how to tell if I have it. The software is registered with Sony. I think the problem is somewhere in Windows land. I wish that there was some way to find out what the requirement is that isn't being met. I can't seem to get the installer to install. You could try the windows update procedure and see if one of the options is to install the .net 3.0 and I take it you have the latest version of quicktime.
