Windows Media Player won't stream
I'm having problems with Windows Media not streaming .WMV files. If I had this problem
for a while now, and I had to reinstall windows every time to be able to stream again.
It seemed like after a few days, the problem occured again and the only way I could
fix it was by reinstalling windows again.
When I'm on a website with the streaming file, the player window looks like this:
As you can see, the toolbar is at the top for some reason. I've tried installing
different codecs and what not but nothing works. It's just wierd that it works for
a few days and then just stops working. Other than this, Media Player works perfectly.

I wish I knew. It could be a security program, or you might have active scripting disabled.408

Active scripting is enabled in the settings. I used to be able to fix the problem by downloading and reinstalling Windows Media Player. But now when I try to do it, I always get an error message at the end of installation saying that Media Player could not finish installing.408

Yes, the internet zone is set to DEFAULT.It's all of the sites that use embedded wma files. For example, if I go to http://www.videocodezone.com/ to look at music videos, it won't let me.408

I should have had you check to make sure Internet zone was set to "default".
I don't have an answer, other than a security program, or something possibly corrupting WMP.
Edit: Maybe it's the website. Do all websites give you problems with WMV's??

Hmm never though about ActiveX? Can you actually download ActiveX drivers? I tried to search but can't find a download place408

I get the player, alright, but the video takes a long time to load, and I'm on DSL. And even then it won't all play.
I think it may be an ActiveX problem. Do you have the latest version of ActiveX installed??408

Just checked and no updates for ActiveX :(. It was just wierd that before when I was able to reinstall WMP, videos played normally for a few days and then they wouldn't play anymore.408

So I guess I have a problem playing ALL WMA files, even if I download them to my computer and play them. I get an error saying that a codec is missing. I click on the help button which brings me to the microsoft website, and tells me I'm missing a Windows Media Player 7 codec, and gives me the option of downloading the Media Player 7.1 codec set or something. So I download it and install it, but no change, I can't play the .wma files due to the missing codec. I tried installing the codec set several times. Why won't it recognize wma files???
