For the past two days, I have been having this problem. I will boot my computer up and it will log into windows just fine. However, after a few minutes the computer will either freeze or go to a black screen with this message: 'Hard disk drive 0 not found. No bootable devices. Strike f1 to retry boot or f2 to enter setup.' I am at a loss as to what to do. Should I replace the HD, reseat the HD, take out my dvd drive, etc? Thanks in advance for your time and help. By the way this is on the Inspiron 4100 series.

I would suggest that you call up the Tech line and have them walk you through reseating the hard drive and pray that it works. Although reseating isn't by any means compicated, if you are under warranty you need to have a Tech tell you to so your warranty isn't null and void. After that is on record, reseat away to your heart's content.

Well it isn't under warranty, so I guess I'm just gonna have to go solo. I've had this computer going on 3 yrs now and its never really had a problem until this. Guess I'll open her up and see what I can find.

XP Media Center

Could someone explain a XP start-up issue...

my PC automatically loads Media Center - how can I adjust it so only the desktop loads.

I like to go to either Outlook or Explorer first & would prefer to avoid the few minutes it takes Media Center to boot.

Hi:

When Media Center loads, point with your mouse to the "Settings" option, then click on the "General" (Gear-shaped) icon, and then on "Startup and Windows Behavior".

Make sure that the box next to "Start Media Center when Windows starts" is unchecked.
