XP will not open

Dell 4155, XP Home new primary hard drive 160mb, added 1G memory for total of 1.5G have Ubuntu on slave Reinstalled XP using Dell reinstall disc (not SP2) Installed SP2 Install assigned "G" has initial drive. System working. Purchased Partition Magic 8.0 with BootMagic to use as OS selector. Unable to partition G for 50mb FAT32, necessary for BootMagic. Used Partition Magic to re-assign "G" to "C" Reboots take 30 minutes. Welcome screen displays user icon but depress action results in system logging off. Tried Safe Mode, selected Administrator, system logged off. Symantec support for PartionMagic isn't worth the $70. Terrible company.

    Try this software

By far superb to PM 8.0

Make all your partitions before installing XP, and yes install XP to C partition.

XP opens now and Acronis is much more user friendly. What an experience I went through to ultimately find out that I corrupted a new HD with a driver which disabled the PC and my CD ROM drive optical device wasn't working. I did find a MS location for creating floppies(6) to boot XP. I had to buy another HD. Installed XP, installed Acronis and now installing Ubuntu on the second HD. Thanks for your help.
