Apparently the XPS 8930 I purchased did not have an optical drive which plays blu-ray.  I have had no need for it until recently.  Therefore, I purchased a USB 3.0 external DVD/Blu-Ray drive.  The 8930 does not recognize it, no matter what I do.  My display adapters:  Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630  and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.

I cannot imagine a machine this nice has an issue like this.  NOTE:  My original operating hard drive died.  I never made a copy of the Dell recovery partition.  I replaced the hard drive and of course there is no Dell recovery option.  I spent half a day looking at recovery options and came to the conclusion that my OEM options are zip because my warranty/maintenance agreement expired.  I don't want to pay for renewing it if it will not help with the blu-ray issue.  I would purchase an internal blu-ray drive if this would help, but perhaps my PC in its current configuration just won't do blu-ray?
