Solution to Alienware Alpha R2 Ethernet Port Not Working on Windows 10

Hello, I have a solution to share in hopes someone at some point beyond me will find this information useful. I have a Alienware Alpha R2 with Windows 10 installed, randomly some years ago the Ethernet port on the back a Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller stopped working with error code 10. I have scoured the web for a solution and I finally have one.

On the website: https://realtek-download.com/realtek-pcie-gbe-family-controller/

The driver: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Win10/Win11 Auto Installation Program (NDIS) LAN Driver 10.53 11.30.2021 for Windows 10 / 11 (4 MB)

Fixed my years long issue and I just wanted to share it with everyone so they to may use the onboard Ethernet port once again.

If you're experiencing issues with the Ethernet port on your Alienware Alpha R2 running Windows 10, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem:

  1. Restart your computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix temporary glitches or conflicts that may be causing the Ethernet port to stop working.

  2. Check the Ethernet cable: Ensure that the Ethernet cable you're using is in good condition and properly connected to both your computer and the router/modem. Try using a different Ethernet cable to rule out any cable-related issues.

  3. Update drivers: Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause problems with hardware functionality. To update the Ethernet drivers, follow these steps: a. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager. b. Expand the Network adapters section. c. Right-click on your Ethernet adapter and select Update driver. d. Choose the option to search for updated drivers automatically. Windows will search and install the latest drivers if available.

  4. Disable and enable the Ethernet adapter: Sometimes, disabling and re-enabling the Ethernet adapter can resolve connectivity issues. Here's how: a. Open the Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select Device Manager). b. Expand the Network adapters section. c. Right-click on your Ethernet adapter and select Disable. d. Wait a few seconds, right-click on the adapter again, and select Enable.

  5. Reset TCP/IP stack: Resetting the TCP/IP stack can help resolve network-related issues. Follow these steps: a. Open Command Prompt as an administrator (right-click the Start button and choose Command Prompt (Admin)). b. Type the following command and press Enter:

    perlCopy code
    netsh int ip reset

    c. Restart your computer.

  6. Check for malware: Malware infections can sometimes interfere with network connections. Run a thorough scan with a reliable antivirus or anti-malware program to ensure your system is clean.

  7. Test the Ethernet port with another device: To determine if the issue is with your Alienware Alpha R2 or the network environment, try connecting another device (such as a laptop or another computer) to the Ethernet port using the same cable. If the other device can connect successfully, the problem likely lies with your computer.

  8. Contact technical support: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's recommended to reach out to Alienware's technical support or consult their online forums for further assistance. They may provide specific troubleshooting steps or recommend hardware repairs if necessary.

Remember to create backups of important data and exercise caution when making changes to your computer's settings or drivers.
