Alienware Aurora-R4 shows a microphone is connected when it isn't

Hi, I've been having this issue for years and have been trying to figure it out to no avail.. I've even had a technician come to my house and change out the front panel of my pc.  The problem I have is that when I have nothing plugged in to the microphone port it says there is something plugged in.  As soon as I put my microphone in to the port it says I unplugged it.  Is this a known issue at all?
