Area-51 R2, power supply
Hi! I have a 5 years old alienware area 51, I've already changed some components but this time it seems that the power supply has some problems since it started to make loud noises when the gpu is working hard (when I play games mainly, not for regular work). So at the beginning I thought it was the gpu but then, opening the PC, I've noticed that the sound comes from the power supply and I supposed that it's simply because the gpu is the most consuming component and so when it works it also put under pressure the power supply. My question are:
The sound is similar to a coil whine and it changes very often, it has never done so before; should I worry about the integrity of the power supply? (Since I've noticed it I simply stopped playing games or anything which could stress the GPU.)
Looking online I couldn't find any available replacement for it, where could I find one? And if I don't could I use another power supply with similar stats? (how can I check compatibility?)
Thank you!!

I tried that individually with all drives. It doesn't recognize any of them

Re: if I don't could I use another power supply with similar stats? (how can I check compatibility?
yes you could use any reputable brand standard ATX psu that has 24 pin ATX for motherboard and 8 pin EPS for cpu, one 4 pin molex for FIO, plus the necessary gpu power connectors. Depending on how many gpu you have and TDP of your gpu, you can estimate how much power you need. Your OEM psu power rating may be more than you need since it was designed to support up to three video cards such as 3x GTX 980.
there is no proprietary connector of Dell OEM psu. It is compatible with industry standard psu.

"there is no proprietary connector of Dell OEM psu"
This is false. There is no such thing as modular cables that work with all vendors as standard. And power supplies even 1000W don't work if they have less than required power for ALL Rails. Which is why EVGA specific unit is recommended. All rails count.
A single spec of Watts isnt good enough.

Assume your 51 R2 has an 80Plus Bronze 850w (or 80Gold 1500w)
The 'V2' means 80Gold & they're a few years 'newer', you can also look for NJVDN Delta V2 850w normally seen in newer models like 51 R3-R7 etc
Coil whine is normal, not a sign of anything wrong, just annoying

aesthetically non-Dell psu with single color cables may be more neat to some people than multicolor cables of Dell modular psu. according to hothardware review the cable management of area 51 r2-5 is not its high point.

Yes that's what I have in my PC, I'll try too see if some of those are available on Amazon here, thank you!
I know it shouldn't be considered a problem but it's a very distinct noise which I've never heard before, the last time something similar happened my hard disk was about to brake (and it did eventually...) of course the sound is not the same.

I've been looking for a Dell 1500 Watt PSU for my R5 for a year now and still haven't come across one. Dell PSU's for the Area-51 are extremely rare. I hope you have better luck than me and are able to find one.

I see they are very rare... I think I'll go for an EVGA power supply as some users suggested me to do cause otherwise I won't find anything especially here which is not the US...
