Aurora R11, add a 3.5" HDD?
Dear community,
I wanted to add an old 3.5 HDD to my new Aurora R11, which already has a PCIe SSD and a preinstalled 3.5 HDD. I see that there are 2 caddies for 2x 2.5 SSD, but could I somehow change that into a case for a 3.5 regular HDD?

1. Hmm that other thread is about changing the position of the 1x 3.5. I want this one to stay there though, as I already have a new 2 TB HDD there.
2. I was thinking to have a second HDD down there, replacing the 2.5 caddies with something else, but it seems difficult.
3. Why would you recommend an external HDD over an internal one?

1. Right. Shows what can be done. Buy the caddy and install it down there. If you want to do it some other way, go ahead and have at it.
3. You answered your own question in #2 above. Buy a $25 case and you are done.
Spinning HDD run hot. Why heat-up case
Spinning HDD are slow. USB-3.0/3.1 can easily handle that slow transfer speed and then some.

Yes, is seems they are interchangeable in the bottom .

But personally, I would just use a nice USB-3.1 external enclosure, especially if HDD is old.

Oh I see. Well, now my new Alienware is having one already, so I guess I am still sticking to it a little I will keep checking temperatures ofc. I didn't know it produced so much heat.

Glad to help.
And remember that 2.5 inch SATA SSDs (even large ones) are getting cheaper by the day. No moving parts, faster, silent, more reliable, less power required, run cooler, etc.
You might want to consider migrating to those sooner than later.
I don't even install spinning-platter HDD's INSIDE new computers any more. I really only use them in external enclosures (backups mostly), and I have some large ones in my RAID-5 Synology NAS.
