Aurora R11, new, add some HyperX memory

I ordered but have yet to receive a new Aurora R11.

Can I remove the stock 16GB HyperX memory and install 2x HyperX Fury 32GB 3200MHz DDR4 Ram CL16 DIMM in slots 1 and 4? Will I need to disable the BIOS XMP option? The max ram DELL stated the Aurora R11 supports is 64GB.

I suppose my concern is, what is the limit of each slot? I read in the same service manual the following which seems to suggest a max per slot of 16GB.

I checked the R11 manual, its the same as the R9 regarding RAM sizes, so no good with the 2 X 32 Gb modules, you would have to use 4 X 16 Gb to get the max of 64.

The service manual for the R9 specifies a max limit of 16 Gb per RAM slot, all 4 slots filled with 16 gives you a total maximum of 64 Gb.

Refer to your service manual for your R11's exact specifications.

Thank you for the added information. I'm risk adverse so for the time being, I'll stick with what is officially supported, 4x16. I have read that OC stability is reduced when using four memory sticks so I'm curious why DELL would opt to allow for cpu oc knowing some users might have to use four sticks. Meh, I digress.

Is this memory a good option that won't cause stability issues or conflicts with the BIOS?

@ZenicaPA Yes the R11 unofficially supports 32 gb sticks.

Those configs in the manual are validated RAM options for the R11 (validated meaning oem options sold stock by Dell-Dell doesn't sell this with 32 gb sticks so they haven't validated such a config).

The R9 is capped at 64gb (4 × 16) due to z370. R11 is on z490, which supports up to 128gb.

Other users have successfully installed and run 4 x 32gb = 128gb sticks in the R11. You may have trouble running it as 3200. Dell does not officially validate or support 32gb sticks so YMMV, and you wouldn't get support from Dell for troubleshooting this. But there is no hardware limitation preventing 33gb sticks and it has worked in the R11. No guarantees though for any specific ram stick as this pc is known to be picky with ram

Not what I wanted but thank you for confirming what I suspected.

Personally, I would rather use my computer than work on it.

Hence, I only went to 3200 Mhz on the RAM since that is the fastest that Alienware approved for the R9.

If I had the time and money to experiment, I would have built another computer from scratch, now I just want everything to work well and not cause any problems.

And before I forget...there is a height issue with the RAM in these Aurora cases, mainly they can't be very tall.

That was another reason I chose the Crucial Ballistix RAM is that they approved it for use in my R9 so I knew it would fit.

I would hate to see you buy some RAM only to find it's too high to fit in that tiny Aurora case.

Me too. I prefer zero headaches when I can but often that runs up against the budget or limited options, in this case, DELL didn't offer any options.

I checked that Crucial page...they suggest this and it's a single 32gb stick. I wonder....

I may try a single 32GB stick from Amazon, if it works ---yay. if not, boo but at least I can return it.

I'm not as adventurous with a new system under warranty.

I may try later on to add unsupported memory to increase capacity.

Do you think HyperX Fury 16GB 3466MHz DDR4 CL16 will be ok? It's rated at 3466 and not 3200 so I'm thinking that too will be an issue.

The Ripjaws looks to me like it might be too high.

I'm not a gambling man, I like sure things...so I was either going with Kingston as the same as came with the computer or something from Crucial...their website is very helpful, just enter your computer make and they guarantee the suggested memory will work.

No way around the "I'm not a robot"....

$123 for a single 32GB stick is a pretty good price even for a budget stick.

@ZenicaPA "I checked that Crucial page...they suggest this and it's a single 32gb stick. I wonder...."

Okay two things.

1. So if you were to for example get a 32GB stick and the chipset or whatnot only supported 16GB per slot, the issue that you would face is that you get 16gb of hardware reserved.  So the PC "sees" 32GB, but you only get to use 16GB.  This is different from #2.

2.  The real issue to be worried about is a no post / black screen scenario.  Different people have different experiences, best bet go search this forum and see what has worked for other people with your exact model.  Other results may just be a downclock.  On that, sometimes bios updates could increase support for example with higher RAM speed. So even users with the same model e.g., R11, may have different results.
