Aurora R12, help with PSU upgrade
New to upgrading, and need some help.
As the heading says I have little experience of working with computers. So here's what happened, I was upgrading my computer with some new RAM. (yes the RAM works, and it's compatible.) Successfully installed two sticks of RAM before my PC couldn't power on anymore, 4 yellow flashes from the front light so it's definitely my RAM. I figured out it was my power supply which wasn't strong enough to support it. Decided to upgrade to an 850-watt power supply for my ram and graphics card I will be installing soon. Where do I even begin to upgrade it? I've done much research but couldn't understand most of the things I learned. Could someone help me with this? Thank you.

Fortunately, the Aurora R12 PSU is standard ATX format. Consider a fully modular PSU so any unused cables can stay in the box. Also, try to stay 140mm to 150mm long or it will start to use up your cable management space.
These would be some options that meet that criteria: pcpartpicker

We would need to know what computer you have and what components are currently installed (CPU, graphics card, PSU, RAM, liquid or air cooled?).

no such thing as psu needs to be more powerful to support new ram. put your old ram back in your AW and try to make it POST. if good then try new ram again. if old works but new does not you have got incompatible new ram. return them. AW is picky of ram a well know thing.

RAM needs very little power. I highly doubt your power supply is the issue. Remove the new RAM and insert the OEM RAM in the proper slots.
You might need a BIOS reset for the error to clear again.
These systems are extremely limited when it comes to aftermarket RAM support and have various issue when aftermarket RAM is used.

Great to know, one last thing. So I will be able to purchase an aftermarket PCU, maybe something like this. https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Power-Supply-Units/Power-Supply-Units-Advanced/RMx-Series/p/CP-9020180-NA

Thanks a lot, just tried my ram again and it works! No idea what I did wrong. Besides that, I'm still going to need one for my new graphics card. I just need to know where to go to purchase one, if it can be aftermarket, and If I need to do any work on it.

Yes, you're right and thank you. But, I do need one still for my GPU. If you would want to help all I need to know is where to go to purchase one if it can be aftermarket, and If I need to do any work on it.

Before we get to the specs, I apologize for mentioning my RAM, it has nothing to do with my power supply. All I need to know is: where to go to purchase one if it can be aftermarket, and If I need to do any work on it.

Oh yes of course! It was my first time using this and I thought it automatically listed it. I have my PC and specs listen in another reply, thanks.

Yes, I believe that Corsair 850 watt PSU is 150mm long, so that would work. You will have a lot of extra cable, so get some zip ties for cable management (see photo)
What air cooled CPU do you have that you are pairing with an RTX 3080Ti?

Couple of things you need to be aware off with this upgrade:
- Make sure the video card fits. 267 mm is the typical maximum length that fits in that case before you have to start modding the case.
- Air cooling in combination with that GPU is asking for trouble in that case. I would highly recommend to upgrade to liquid cooling.
- What CPU do you have in that R12? If it's a lower end and you game at 1080P you will likely run into a CPU bottleneck with a 3080Ti.

Yes I didn't think of that, I definitely need to upgrade to a water cooled system to keep up with the graphics card. No idea where to start.

This RTX 3080 would fit @ 267mm long Gigabyte Turbo and would also exhaust hot air out the back of the case. Start a new thread when you are ready to talk about liquid cooling.
