Aurora R14, 3 yellow lights

Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R14

Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R14

I went to shut down my computer and I got a grey screen and it wouldn't shut down. I held power button and tried turning it back on and I got 3 yellow lights. I tried removing cmos, draining power and putting back in original ram so I could pull up the screen to say ram has changed. I get three yellow lights in slots 2/4 but no yellow lights in 1/3 in the memory slots. I can't get anything to come up on screen DP or HDMI. Please help.

Besides three amber how many white led blinks do you have?

Blinking amber—Computer is experiencing a boot failure but the power-supply unit is functioning correctly.

The power-status light may blink amber or white according to predefined "beep codes" indicating various failures.

Table 1. Diagnostic light codes

DIAGNOSTIC LIGHT CODES (AMBER, WHITE) PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
1,1 TPM Detection Failure
1,2 Unrecoverable SPI Flash Failure
1,5 EC unable to program i-Fuse
1,6 Generic catch-all for ungraceful EC code flow errors
1,7 Non-RPMC Flash on Boot Guard fused system
2,1 CPU configuration or CPU failure
2,2 System board: BIOS or Read-Only Memory (ROM) failure
2,3 No memory or Random-Access Memory (RAM) detected
2,4 Memory or Random-Access Memory (RAM) failure
2,5 Invalid memory installed
2,6 System board/Chipset Error
3,1 CMOS battery failure
3,2 PCI of Video card/chip failure
3,3 BIOS Recovery 1: BIOS recovery image not found
3,4 BIOS Recovery 2: Recovery image found but invalid
3,5 Power Rail Failure: EC ran into power sequencing failure
3,6 Flash corruption detected by SBIOS
4,1 Memory DIMM power rail failure
4,2 CPU Power cable connection issue

I am not sure but I think it was 3,1 which would be cmos. But if I switch ram slots fro. 2/4 to 1/3 I get no blinking lights so I could be wrong on the color. I was using g skill ripjawsv 3600mhz. I have the original ram as well and put that back in but I can't get anything to come on the screen. Last time this happened I changed the frequency ram to the wrong on in bios and did a cmos reset and worked fine. For some reason when I tried shutting down I got a grey screen so idk what happened.

Grey screen is likely due to the RAM not being 100% compatible.

I cannot stress enough how picky these systems are when it comes to RAM, and the only RAM to guarantee work 100% is the OEM RAM.

Try a flea power drain: Flea power drain

I got it to work by seating the ram in the 1 and 4 slot. Screen finally came up. I have my g skill ram back installed in 1 and 3 at correct timings. This is fing ridiculous. @Vanadiel do you know if the crucial compatibility list actually works? Also why was I getting bad cmos battery in ram slots 2/4 but no other light indicators when putting ram in different dimms. I have new cmos batteries coming.

agree it is a highly fastidious system in terms of memory and slots.  no fast rule just got to find out what works and what does not.  In my opinion not fun to poke this beast often who closes its eye on you.  If it works now, enjoy it for a day or two before picking up courage to deal with it on another round.

@Vanadiel Why can't I put the memory back into slots 2 and 4. For some reason it won't boot on those. Did they burn out or something? I do have Dell technician coming for motherboard replacement

Should I just use the 32 GB 3466 stock ram vs 2x 32gb(so 64gb total) gskill ripjawsv 3600.

Likely because it still has incorrect timings for those slots. You can try flea power to see if that erases the stored timings.

I would use the OEM memory since the ripjaws don't seem to be stable in your system.

I use the timings from cpu-z.

Crucial compatibility list is more a gimmick than anything else if you ask me.

For example: Not Compatible

Crucial Ballistix MAX 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-4400 Desktop Gaming Memory (Black)

This part is 100% compatible with Aurora Ryzen Edition R14

I can assure you that DDR4-4400 is NOT compatible with that system...

Just select XMP from the BIOS and it will use the settings from the XMP profile. There should be no need to set any manual timings.

"I do have Dell technician coming for motherboard replacement."

Gosh . . . I wonder if your issues might be related?

I called them when I couldn't get it working as a precaution.
