Aurora R4 installing Windows 7 missing DVD driver
never seen this error
Win 7 disc is good used on other pc
R4 detects the disc and boots from Win 7 but when I clicked start to begin install
keeps getting msg
missing a dvd driver

bios is A06
this pc had a fastidious bios before would not POST from 4x8 GB I had to change to 4 GB
now I replaced cmos battery and it is taking the 4x8 GB
do not want to update bios due to the history of no POST when 4x8 GB was used
I think it has a delicate bios

Yeah, that was an issue back then.
My old notes for Aurora-R4 says the fix is to set BIOS to UEFI and AHCI (not RAID).

Dell removed old bios from driver support site so user can not easily find older ver. of bios.
only A11 is listed now Aurora R4 System BIOS | Driver Details | Dell US
work around now is to google by typing old bios name
A07
Alienware Aurora R4 System BIOS | Driver Details | Dell US
A09
Aurora R4 System BIOS | Driver Details | Dell US
A10
Aurora R4 System BIOS | Driver Details | Dell Ghana

@redxps630 Interesting, I'm thinking it may just not be indexed due to being an older platform. Newer models should have the "All Driver Options" available to list all version in one go. Doesn't change that the older version would need to be googled or searched on the support site itself. With that said, we have provided feedback to return the functionality to link directly to a specific driver from the list like before the redesign.

Tesla may be correct, default bios is RAID. this may be the cause. I will give it a test
yes that is correct. changing to AHCI. the missing dvd device error is gone and also the ssd shows up in Windows 7 installer.

@DELL-Daniel V , I just test with similar release year model and the XPS 8500 has its drivers migrated correctly. All previous versions are showing.

Interestingly when I checked around
I find 8500, 8700, 8900 bios lists old bios versions.
Aurora R7, R6, R5 too
8300 no
Aurora R4 R1 no
so maybe it is true some models are too old to list all bios driver versions

I got the same missing dvd driver error on a totally different non-Dell motherboard. BIOS sata is AHCI. I was confused?
then I think this might be the cause: this board has legacy and efi bios but for some reason prefers to boot from legacy bios. when I was booting I did not know it was in legacy so I chose UEFI: DVD as the boot option. that got me into the error above.

@redxps630 ,
Well, as you work on these older computers ... I'm reminded of my experiences (then and now if I am forced to work on any older computers). A few times, I have run across some from the Legacy-BIOS/UEFI transition period. Some thing are just weird. I was told by an elder that these WinTel motherboards are actually plain EFI (not full UEFI).

user reports even though some Dell driver sites lists all the old BIOS version, the link for older bios is broken and leads back to the generic driver website. so the links are useless other than telling users there were these old bios versions.
