Aurora R4, RTC is reset

Question

Hello,

My Alienware Aurora R4 PC is displaying the message "RTC is reset" when starting the computer up. It gives me the option to continue by pressing F1 or to go into the BIOS by pressing F2. I thought this error was due to the coin cell battery needing replacement so I have changed the CR2032 battery on the motherboard but the problem still persists. I read on another article on the Dell Community Forums about the same issue , and that advised to change the CMOS jumpers on the motherboard to overcome this problem. I have tried that but it makes no difference. I still get the same error message on startup. Does anyone know what causes this error and does anyone know what else I could try or know of a solution to this problem please?

I tried resetting the clock to be exactly correct in the bios and this has fixed the issue. I no longer get the 'RTC is reset' error message when starting the computer. Thanks for the advice given.

Was the old one a CR2032 or a BR2032? And what was it's voltage?

Was the NEW one a CR2032 or a BR2032? And what is it's brand and voltage?

After installing the new one, did you?
- Write down your current options
- Load BIOS Defaults
- Set-again your desired options
- Reset the clock to be exactly correct

Hello,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I did not receive an email notifing me of a reply to my forum post as I had chosen on the dell community forums.

The old battery was a CR2032. I don't have the battery anymore, but I think it was 3 volt.

The new battery was a CR2032 as well. This is a Duracell branded battery, and it is 3 volt.

I didn't load the BIOS defaults as I didn't think I needed to. My system is overclocked from the factory so will I need to reconfigure the overclock in the BIOS if I reset it to default? I will write down the current bios options before I do this though.

I haven't reset the clock yet, it is slow by about twenty minutes.

A problem I am having is that the power button on the base unit of my Aurora R4 seems to be wearing and I have set in the bios for the computer to turn on automatically when turned on at the wall socket, saving the need to use the power button on the base unit to turn the computer on. Unfortunately this RTC error means that the computer is not turning on automatically at the wall socket as it should be. I have to use the power button on the computer's base unit at present to turn it on.

After installing a new CR2032, I would suggest you do this:
- Write down your current options
- Load BIOS Defaults
- Set-again your desired options
- But, do NOT re-enable Over-Clocking. Run cpu and memory at stock-clocks as they were intended.
- Reset the clock (RTC) to be exactly correct.

Hope your motherboard is not trashed-out and bad now. Are you ready to buy a new machine yet?
