Aurora R6, 64GB memory upgrade issue

Question

My Aurora R6 had the default 2x8GB RAM in slots 1 and 3. I purchased 4x16GB HyperX Fury DDR4 2400MHz memory for it. If I add two 16GB sticks to slots 2 and 4, it runs fine with 48GB - either pair or the new memory works fine, so I know all four sticks are good. But if I remove the 2x8GB and put the 16GB sticks in slots 1 and 3 as well, for the full 64GB, the computer does not boot? The blue lights come on but it goes no further, the hard disk doesn't fire up, the screen remains blank, nothing.

Any ideas what I can do to try and resolve? I'm running Ubuntu, but have a dual boot and could put it into Windows, though I think the problem is probably os agnostic.

With 64 GB it normally takes up to 5 minutes at the black screen to process the RAM change. Let it sit if there is no flashing on the power button.

Also, turn off any OC setting and clear CMOS before trying again.

Dell AW bios is 'touchy' said one community user meaning it is fastidious of what ram it can support.  Community knowledge is that not all ram upgrade work in AW except Dell or Crucial for the specific model.  When you put two new ram with two old Dell ram bios is still able to cope and come up with a compromised settings to run all albeit at some non spec frequencies. All 4 new non Dell ram is 'too much' for Dell bios to swallow and it simply throws in the towel.  The new rams are good but their settings are different from what Dell bios needs to run smoothly.  If you still want 64Gb, return those you have if seller accepts and get Crucial ram guaranteed to work for R6.

Thank you for your help - the crucial website compatible ram starts at 2666 and goes up to 4400. I am under the impression that the maximum I can use in the r6 is 2400. Am I wrong?

Also, the R6 was validated with 2400 RAM (non XMP) and 2666 with XMP enabled.  Some people have successfully used 2666 aftermarket RAM.

Also, did you try clearing CMOS and letting it sit at the black screen with no OC or XMP enabled? I would start there as it may still work.

OC settings disabled is just F2 on boot, advanced performance options and disabled.

That crucial website configurator is incorrect, 4400 RAM will not work in the R6. It wouldn't even work in an R12. You're unlikely to get anything over 2933 to post, and even 2933 is a stretch.

The crucial website "guarantee" only means that if it doesn't work, you get your money back. It's not guaranteed that it will work, it's a guarantee to get your money back if it doesn't. They don't test the RAM in every computer system made that's unrealistic.

Ok. My OC settings were/are disabled. I cleared the CMOS and left it for 1 hour with the 64Gb installed, the lights stayed on and were not flashing but it did not boot. I then reverted to the (previously working) 48Gb configuration, which would not boot either. I then went back to the original 16Gb memory, and it booted. I could then go back to the 48Gb configuration, which is currently working.

I cannot see an option to buy memory direct from Dell which is compatible with the R6, and as discussed above, the Crucial memory is only guaranteed for a refund, not to work. So it appears the maximum memory I can achieve is 48Gb, not the 64 I was hoping for.

Anything else I can try? Has anyone out there successfully achieved 64Gb in the R6?
