Aurora R6, moving to WiFi environment
I'm changing my setup from direct network connection to 1Gb fiber optic based wifi. I'd appreciate hearing any experience folks have had on running the Aurora R6 on wifi. I think there is a built in wifi service, but I suspect I'd get better performance from a dedicated PCI card. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Congratulations on your 1 Gb fiber optic connection...
My suggestion would be to keep in mind that the Wi-Fi adapter in your computer is half the equation, the other half is the quality of your Wi-Fi router.
The Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650x adapter in my Aurora is a great partner to my Netgear Nighthawk Tri-Band AX12 12-Stream AX WiFi Router. I'm running in Wi-Fi 6, WPA-3, usually on one of the two 5GHz bands (the router automatically changes to what transmits the best signal) with no problems at all. Signal strength throughout an approximately 2000 sq. ft. house is generally over 90 percent. I'm in a Wi-Fi congested area with on average 30 neighbors all transmitting Wi-Fi signals at the same time.
My HP printer/scanner is 6 years old and requires Wi-Fi 5 with WPA-2 on the 2.4 GHz band. No problem, I just set that up on one of the other channels on the router.
Besides a smart home thermostat, two older laptops connect with no problems, but they don't have the security a new Wi-Fi 6 adapter would have, so by all means update your R6 with a new Wi-Fi 6 adapter.
Obviously, financial realities must be observed, but no sense bottle-necking that 1 Gb with less than a first class Wi-Fi router and adapter.

Reilly, thanks so much for your thoughtful response. You pointed out some things I yet to have figured out. Happy to see this forum work so well.

You are very welcome, I'm glad to be of service; indeed, this forum is very helpful.
Use the Internet in researching routers and Wi-Fi adapters...Tomshardware and guru3D are examples of websites that perform testing of computer products that will aid in your search and help you narrow down your choices.
When I added my Nighthawk router I was amazed at the increase in apparent speed and efficiency when switching up to Wi-Fi 6. It is an expensive unit, but I feel the performance has justified the cost. I previously used a combo DSL modem/router provided (for a rental fee) by my Internet service provider. Switching off the router part of the combo; using just the modem, and setting up the Nighthawk was achieved painlessly and has been working trouble free for a little over 6 months.
Best of luck with your upgrades.

I would continue to use a real ethernet wire.
Just connect it to the new router/residential gateway they provide.
