Aurora R7, what can it support?

Alienware 0VDT73 A00 is my Motherboard. I'm looking to add another SATA Data Hard Drive (my 1TB is almost full). What can I add to this? i don't understand there are so many charts and it's over this 40yr olds head and I don't want to buy something and then it not work. Also is there any TB limitations?  I'm looking/wanting to get something 8-12 TB in size (gamer/streamer).

No issues with 2 TB drives.

Larger drives as boot Drive are not easy installs.

Default setting is Raid on which requires F6 mass storage drivers rather than the AHCI sata operation that works with the default windows driver.

Secodary storage is fine but I suggest making it EXFAT rather than NTFS so you dont end up with BCD boot and drive letter assignment issues.

If you are not tech savvy, I would opt for a USB external enclosure USB 3.1 GEN 2 type with an SSD rather than a traditional HDD.

It will provide much faster transfer speeds than your current HDD, and it will be hassle free since it just plugs into the appropriate port and away you go. No need to open up your case or fiddle with wiring.

 

You could also opt for the same enclosure type, but with a traditional HDD instead of SSD. SSD is more expensive, but no mechanical parts and superior in almost any regard to a HDD except for price per gigabyte.

If you're looking at 8-12TB storage drive, yeah, your realistic options are either:  a 3.5" platter drive or an external enclosure.  An 2.5" SATA SSD that is 8TB is a theoretical option but would probably run you $700 - $1400.  

So there's only one 3.5" caddy in the Aurora.  If you wanted it internal, you'd either have to remove the existing 3.5" hard drive (if you have one), or buy a 3.5" Aurora caddy off ebay for $20. 

The only other thing you would need for an internal 3.5" HDD is a SATA data cable.  The PC comes with a spare power hookup.

If you do, be sure to plug it into one of the 2 USB ports that are enclosed in a white rectangle on the motherboard's rear IO shield.  All other USB ss ports, including the USB/C and all ports on the top of the PC, are gen 1 (which run at half the speed of gen 2) or USB 2.0 (much slower).
