Aurora R8, GPU upgrade power question
The Aurora R8 we have came with a Nvidia 1070 which has a single 8 pin connector on it. I am replacing it with a RTX 3060 (and also replacing the power supply). I see though that the motherboard also has an 8-pin GPU PWR connector on it which was in use. The 3060 we have has one 8-pin and one 6-pin connector on it. Is it still necessary to plug the PSU to the 8 pin GPU PWR connector on the motherboard or does the 8 and 6 pins on the card provide all the needed power?

Note that it is an EPS 8-pin that connects to GPU_PWR header, not PCIe 8-pin.

You will still need the 8 pin for the motherboard.

Typically it would be an 8 PIN EPS, but since these are OEM boards who knows what it is. I remember on my R10 it was an 8 PIN header with an 8 PIN connector, but only wired with 6 wires from the OEM 1000 Watt PSU.
Others with an R10 had it wired with 8 wires. Never figured out why...

One user opined “Plug in the 4 PIN EVGA (psu) cable labeled "CPU" into the GPU_PWR header, otherwise you will get a black screen. ”
so minimal requirement is to plug in 4/8 pin of GPU_PWR socket.
