Aurora R8, RTX 4070 upgrade?

Bottleneck issues? The i7 9700k may be old but it’s still a high end PC pc part that meets the standards of the latest competitive games.

While it might meet the system requirements, that does not mean it's automatically a good match for a GPU. 

Both the GPU and CPU have to be matched as good as possible, to avoid a bottleneck.

A 9700K bottlenecks a 3080 by 37% at 1080P. I am assuming you will experience a bottleneck with a 4070 at 1080P.

Even if that is the case no issues will occur quite the opposite will happen. The 4070 is a huge upgrade from my current 2060 and considering the 4070s price a slightly lower end GPU a that wouldn’t bottleneck my system, such as a 3080, is of similar price wouldn’t last near as long as the 4070. Nothing but positives would occur from this bottleneck.

He wasn’t making me aware of anything as what you’ve just stated is false. Like I said there’s no negative affects of bottleneck in this case. The 4070 is extremely cheap for its power and a GPU that wouldn’t bottleneck my system such as the 3070 actually costs around the same price. That said it’s your opinion……. Even though you aren’t looking at the details.

The incremental money you spend for a graphics card that is severely underutilized is a non-positive occurrence. That said, its your money . . . Vanadiel was just making you aware. Enjoy your rig!

4070 it is then. Feel free to post the FPS increases before and after, so we can better advice other users on upgrade possibilities.

Wow, you're knowledgeable!!! I have a friend with the same CPU as me and he has a 3070 he gets 110fps in Warzone whereas I only get 80fps. I believe a 4070 will prove its value if I'm getting a significant increase in fps on a game I play competitively.

A used GPU is of a lower value to a new GPU. If a buy a 3050 it’s not as cost effective as buying a 4070 as I will have to replace it sooner. If I bug a 4070 at some point I can upgrade my CPU and the PC will last a few years. If I buy a 3050 in a year or two I will need to upgrade. This is not as cost effective….. those are the details.

Actually, your system would bottle-neck an RTX 3070 by about 20% @ 1080P. A better match for your processor would be the RTX 3050, which is running about half the price of the RTX 4070 . . . plus, you may not have needed to upgrade your PSU. Those are the details my friend.

Also, a 3050 is worse than my current GPU.

Just a thing to consider also is the current performance of your 2060. It's a good match for your 9700K at 1080P.

So you might want to consider holding off on the 4070, as due to the bottleneck the performance increase might not be worth the cost of the upgrade. 

If you end up upgrading your CPU in a few years or so, newer video cards will provide better performance than a 4070 and it might financially not be the best option to purchase a 4070 right now with a future CPU upgrade in mind.

Or you could just go ahead and get the 4070, but I don't believe that paired with the 9700K it will be a great enough improvement if you already have a 2060.

I made an upgrade from 2060 Super to 4070 in my R9. It was not necessary to change the power supply (850 Watt Dell). My CPU is from the same generation as yours. For me the upgrade is a huge step.
