Aurora R9, buying help
Hi there,
I have just arranged for an Area-51m laptop to be returned due to the thermal throttle mar 75°C.
Thinking a desktop will be better, so Aurora R9 is interesting to me but have a few questions.
Are there any configurations to avoid? I was thinking RTX 2080 Ti and the i9-9900. Does this have any issues? There is a SLI dual RTX 2080 option. Do many games actually use SLI anymore?
Also, for the Dual Channel HyperX FURY DDR4 XMP at 2933MHz. Is 32GB for an extra £140 rather than 16GB good value? Or is it easier to buy at a different time?
Also, do they come with a TPM?

All I can say is good luck to you. Make sure to check in on your order daily if you do go ahead and buy. Seems they have a "shortage of parts" on many different configs for the Aurora PC's right now, which will complicate your buying experience.

I've written about this many times for the Auroras (hasn't changed much over the years ).
Liquid-Cooler for Intel-i7 (or better) CPU
Get your memory now. 2 DIMMs (so they match and run dual-channel)
512gb NVMe SSD (for Windows Boot and Apps)
One single nice video card (I prefer Nvidia these days)
850w PS (modular)
You don't really even need any internal spinning-HDD any more ... The 2.5in. SATA SSD is cheap upgrade now-days..
If you want 2 video cards SLI, you should look at Area-51 instead (larger, better cooling).
Like any high-end desktop, needs APC-1000 Battery (with LCD and AVR) or similar.
I prefer Dell UltraSharp monitors and LG-pro with IPS-panels (or at least non-TN).

Status: The TPM is ready for use.

Thanks for the information. I looked at Area 51 but they are all sold out. Maybe due to the shortages you mention

Haven’t paid yet, would it be better to change to i9 9900K (8-Core, 16MB Cache, Overclocked up to 4.7GHz across all cores)?

Looks good to me.
Yeah, the higher/loaded configs seem to have better instant discounts (especially around the holidays).

I did upgrade the processor and also after checking stores upgraded to 64GB 2933 RAM and 2Tb NVMe as the price difference didn't make buying and fitting myself worthwhile, which seems unusual for dell, they are usually very expensive
Hopefully the SSD isn't too slow, I don't know what they supply
I considered dual graphics cards but reading on it, when they work they are great but more often than not they don't work well so single best card I can afford seems best
06/12 Estimate though. Oh well, I shall try and be patient

Oh, now I manage to find RAM cheaper. My Google skills failed! Oh well! I am not going through the hassle of changing the order, for one thing I had a real fight to get a good discount. Dell also seem to be selling out. Not sure I could order it again
