Aurora R9, driver updates, should I do them?
Hi folks,
Well I noticed that there are new updates on the Alienware Aurora R9 support page, one being
1. Alienware OC Controls Application Version 1.2.70.1237 Last Updated Date: 02 Jun 2020
Important Information: - Ensure that you uninstall the previous version of Alienware OC Controls before installing this version.
- The Alienware Command Center application must be installed before installing Alienware Overclocking Controls.
First of all , seriously? I have uninstall AWCC ?
2. Alienware Command Center Application Version: 5.2.89.0, A00 Last Updated Date: 02 Jun 2020
Important Information: It is recommended that you install the audio driver version 6.0.1.8394 or later before installing this update. It is applicable on Alienware and G-Series systems with Realtek audio.
This is a new machine, March 12, 2020. Shouldn't these drivers already be on there? If I was to go to the Dell Support Assist program on my task bar will it automatically and safely do any updates the machine needs with no problems afterwards. My R9 is running like a champ and actually afraid of doing any updates. My AWCC is working like a charm, keyboard, headset, game library and OC tools. Is all this uninstall this then install that really necessary? I understand updates but dang I'm not going to uninstall stuff if it's working right.
Is it correct to say to do all updates through the Dell Alienware Aurora R9 support Assistance icon on the task bar?

Yeah, if it is working fine I wouldn't see the need to update it. These are optional Dellware programs and notoriously buggy programs at that. In the event you do update, perhaps wait a while to see if other people report problems first so Dell can get that worked out. I turned off auto updates from Dell a long time ago and haven't ever updated these programs. My bios version is also over a year old. Same, no problems here.

Hi,
ad 1 I didn't uninstalled the older version. As far as I know the uninstalling / installing procedure is made by the installer during the update.
ad 2 same situtation here. No need to install the audio Driver.
I also use the support assistant for updates. I check for updates manually, auto updating is deactivated. That gave me the opportunity to skip the BIOS 1.08 update which removes my OC settings in AWCC.

Yeah when I got home I fired up the machine and it request me to update the AWCC stuff. I crossed fingers and legs and went ahead with the update, restarted and everything went well. I’m running the 1.07 bios too and I think the 1.08 is for older units but that’s just a guess and from what I read. I also have mine in manual update mode too.
