AW2721D, black screen, image lost while using it
Hello,
I bought the AW2721D 2 weeks ago.
I noticed that the screen randomly looses the image, suddenly the screen goes black (but the screen power is ON). The backlight of the screen stays on. The complete sequence is
Image OK with backlight ON -> No image with backlight ON (you can see it because of IPS glow), and the OSD is not appearing using buttons on the monitor;
When it's happening, the screen does not respond, it's impossible to use the buttons on the monitor to display the OSD to change input or display informations for example.
The only way to get the image back is to turn off the screen, and turn it on again.
I've been experiencing this on:
- Windows 10 1440p (240hz) using a DisplayPort cable while gaming
- MacOS BigSur 1440p (144hz) using HDMI cable while working
The firmware on my screen says it's M0B101.
Do I have a defective unit ? My friend who bought the same screen at the same time on the same reseller (amazon.fr) does not have this issue.
I doubt that the power cord is the reason this is happening because the backlight stays on. Any loss of power would translate in no power at all (no backlight) for a short amount of time. This is not the case for me.

Sounds nothing out of the ordinary I think, I have seen my monitors over the past become Generic PNP, as are my current 2 monitors.
I think what counts is Nvidia detecting the monitor, making it more capably driven.

I get the impression that the Monitor dose not come with a HDMI cable. Does the HDMI cable you are using handle 1440p 144Hz?
On to the PC, lower the frequency, test. Does it work?

Support told me to change the power cable... that did not solve the problem. Had this problem twice now in the last few days, once with GSYNC active, once without it.

Here are my specs
New built from last year
Asus Hero XI Mobo
I7 8700K base speed with a Noctua NH-D15
32 Gig Mem
Asus GFX 2070.
3 SSD.
1000 Watt PSU.
Win 10, 64 Pro.
It's not the temperature, CPU runs around 33c. GPU right now @ 28c
I got a full size tower so the heat is not an issue. And yes I'm using the 1.4 cable.

And the high pitched noise I was talking about at the beginning of the thread is coming from the lighting. After using the monitor with lighting on for some time the high pitched noise appears, disabling the lighting solves the problem immediately.

Possibly... last night when it happened for me I did remove the DP cable and plug it back in to see if that would fix the issue as others suggested (I know turning screen off/on works). Removing and re-entering the cable did work, and maybe that's what triggered these events...
I just tested this by removing the cable and putting it back in. No new instances of these events.
What is interesting about the events is I think it's telling me that the driver I installed from the Dell website for the monitor was 'Outranked':

Hello, I had it as soon as I plugged in my 32" to my new GPU, at the same time it just says, reconfigured to PNP monitor.
My guess this just explains why it is on PNP monitor.
