AW3423DW, randomly turns black
Alienware 34 Curved OLED Monitor AW3423DW
My AW3423DW randomly goes black for about 10 seconds and shows the "DP Input Message" when it comes back:
- No obvious pattern, frequency roughly once an hour
- M0B102 firmware
- In windows 11 and in games
- Latest drivers installed (GPU is RTX 3080)
- G-Sync enabled in Windows and full screen mode
- 144Hz and 165Hz, I'm currently trying other refresh rates to see if that helps
- Occurs on two AW3423DW units that I tested but not on an older AW3420DW screen
- Happens with 3 sets of DP cables and two AW3423DWs so unlikely to be a hardware issue
- Issue has not yet happened when combining two AW3423DWs as a single "surround display"
Has anyone experienced this or has ideas for a solution?

This only appears to happen when I have two monitors connected and enabled.

Simplify the setup, test one monitor at time.
Test #1 AW3423DW on all three of the RTX 3080 DP out ports. Post the results.
#1 AW3423DW --> RTX 3080 DP out port #1 = Black out or does not black out?
#1 AW3423DW --> RTX 3080 DP out port #2 =
#1 AW3423DW --> RTX 3080 DP out port #3 =
Test #2 AW3423DW on all three of the RTX 3080 DP out ports. Post the results.
#2 AW3423DW --> RTX 3080 DP out port #1 =
#2 AW3423DW --> RTX 3080 DP out port #2 =
#2 AW3423DW --> RTX 3080 DP out port #3 =

I've had the same issue recently (twice today). Screen goes black and then comes back on with the "HDMI 2 input" message. Seems to occur randomly...

Thank you Chris, I tested this with only a single AW3423DW connected for about a week now and do not see this issue occurring.
The issue does occur with a AW3420DW + AW3423DW connected and also appears to occur when two AW3423DWs are connected unless they are combined in the Nvidia driver into a single virtual screen.
The intermittent nature of the issue makes it time consuming to test each screen on each port for many hours but so far I don't see any differences on different ports.

Do you have any additional screens connected to your GPU?

This started happening to me recently. I have an RTX3080, nVidia driver issue? I'd be playing a game or browsing, then screen goes black then starts up again after about 3-5 seconds with the DP signal coming up.
I am using dual monitors, one inside my PC that monitors TEMPS etc, and my main 3423DW. Had the monitor since May but it only started happening recently. Windows 11.

What is logged in event manager when that happens?

same here - updated to Windows 11 not so long ago (2 weeks?) and the issue started happening less than a week ago.
I also have multiple monitors but problem occurs even when I switch in Windows to display only on DELL AW3423DW. Disconnecting cables from a second monitor is not a solution for me.

The issue goes away when I disable the 2nd screen in the windows display settings, I don't physically remove the cable. Still - not a solution just a limited workaround for me but there are times when the screen not randomly turning off is better than a 2nd screen like when playing certain games.
The other workaround I found is setting both screens up as a single larger screen in the Nvidia control panel but often it's annoying to then have the bezels in the center of your virtual screen.

That would indicate there's no driver crash, because otherwise that would be logged.
Anything in the reliability report? I don't think there would be, but you never know.

Nothing appearing in reliability report.
I suspect a sleeping laptop connected via HDMI is somehow involved.
After disconnecting the HDMI cable from laptop port the problem has not occured for more than a day now (PC is connected via DisplayPort).

Interestingly enough I'm having the same issue. I've had the monitor for a few days now and every time I close or alt tab a game/application I get a black screen and the DP notification when it reinitialises.
It's driving me mad, my other AW monitor has no such issues.
I suspect when its changes from a different refresh rate or HDR it then initiates some kind of output check, and because there are 2 plugged in (I have ad HDMI and DP) it's then trying to redetect what one is active.
I think this needs to be patched some how, having to disconnect a cable every time I'm not using it seems rather inconvenient.

That sounds like the normal and expected behavior when you use different resolutions or refresh rates in windows and your games. Try setting them the same and your issue should go away.
The issue I posted about is where this randomly happens without changing resolution or refresh rate.
