Question about "Alienware Update"+Dell Update
Hi,
1) I recently got an Aurora R7 and have been keeping up with the updates on "SupportAssist", updating the stuff in it whenever I seen an update but ignoring the bios update. Just today I saw that there was an "Alienware Update" app so I ran it and saw some updates there to that weren't in SupportAssist (Realtek audio). After that I checked for updates again on Alienware Update and saw "SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools" so installed it. However, now whenever I check for updates that OS recovery tools still keeps showing up even after restarts. Do I just ignore it?
2) Also now when I check the dell support page on the drivers and downloads, I see it recommending me "Dell Update Application". Is that an update for Alienware Update or is it yet another program ?
Thanks in advance!

2nd question first. Dell Update Application is a Dell app not an Alienware app. All Dell systems will probably have that in the list of applications available.
And this forum post regarding the Recovery Tool reappearing.

I think Alienware Update is just a re-skinned Dell Update, but frankly I lost track of what they call it and which is pre-installed on Aurora-R7 now-days.
I uninstalled all of it, including Support-ASSist.

All is good.
Other than nvidia.com drivers, everything I need seems to come from Windows Update now anyway.
If you want an actual BIOS update, just go get the next one from support.dell.com or ftp.dell.com .

I know it doesn't really help your situation exactly...
But I recommend you get into the habit of ignoring support assist all together. The pop up can be annoying, but really, if your system is working great...the only updating you should need would be for the independent cards and peripherals imo.
Learned my lesson after serious struggles with the bios updates. No more of that bs!

Agreed with the other posts. Support Asst. is real buggy unless they fixed it with a new version. I tried it and each time I went to the Dell site for my PC (Aurora R7) it would prompt me to install the SA but I already had it and after a few uninstalls/re-installs nothing changed. I just said screw it I can manually do mine own updates. Sometimes those "driver update" programs can do more harm then good imo.

I haven't uninstalled it yet, only due to the info out there stating that it is not easy to uninstall...go figure
