Aurora R10, Secure Boot Certificate Expiry

Just for info the machine has started to complain.

That R11 and R10 are no longer supported platforms...  

The November 21, 2025 article discussed 2019 and older models that will not receive BIOS updates with the 2023 certificate =

Aurora R5 2015/R6 2016/R7 2017/R8 2018/R9 2019/R10 2019. No planned secure boot updates

The article has not been updated to show Aurora R9/R10 but since they released prior to 2020, no planned secure boot updates.

The Aurora R11 released in 2020 so should get it.

Thanks @GeeWhizGuy​ @DELL-ChrisM2​ - Sorry for delay was out of the country.     A bit annoying my machine was shipped on 5th May 2021 and is not covered.      "The article has not been updated to show Aurora R9/R10 but since they released prior to 2020, no planned secure boot updates." Looks like my new machine was an "old" machine that fell between the cracks.

I admit it is confusing verbiage. The phrase in the article, "If your system shipped before 2020", is not when it shipped to you. It means when Dell first released to market the system to sales as "ready to ship". As of today, the 2019 released Aurora R9 and Aurora R10 are not in the list. So all we can do is periodically check those systems file library to see if a new BIOS appears.

I have the same issue with Aurora R11. The fact is that Dell has not explicitly listed the Aurora R11 in the group of eligible systems for the 2023 Secure Boot certificates.

Right now the R11 is in a strange middle ground:

• it’s not on the list of excluded systems

• but it’s also not officially confirmed as eligible

• and the latest BIOS (1.0.24) doesn’t include the 2023 certificates

• which results in Windows logging Event ID 1801

So the documentation suggests it should be eligible, but Dell hasn’t actually confirmed it anywhere.

Will the R11 will receive the update or not?

@Mercurio2013​ We were sold dead ducks - for the price of my 4 year old R10 I could have had a new laptop every year.

I get the frustration — a lot of us paid a premium for these systems, and it’s disappointing to see how quickly they get treated as “legacy”. But in my case the issue isn’t really about the value of the machine or whether it was worth the price. What I’m trying to sort out is a very specific firmware/Secure Boot compliance problem.

The Aurora R11 isn’t listed as excluded from the 2023 Secure Boot certificate update, but it’s also not officially confirmed as eligible. So it’s stuck in this weird middle ground where Windows throws Event ID 1801, and the firmware won’t accept the updated certificates.

That’s why I’m trying to get a clear answer from Dell — just to know whether the R11 will actually receive the update or not. At this point, even an official “yes” or “no” would be better than the ambiguity.

.... and Support want to charge for answering the question, which, by the look of it, there is no answer.

Along with the Alienware Command Center virus, which keeps trying to install, and they want to charge for solving that as well, this will be my last Dell. As a Home PC owner there is no money in me, all they appear to want is the Network Server businesses - based on all the adverts I keep getting. My next machine is sitting in a basket (not Dell's basket)

Between the lack of answers on a simple firmware question and the constant push toward paid support, it’s hard to feel valued as a home user. This whole experience has really changed the way I look at the brand.

We Forum Liaisons cannot give you a simple yes or no. Both the 2020 released Aurora R11 and 2021 released Aurora R12 are in that state. Based on the two Dell articles, I can only speculate that they both will get it. But like you, I can only periodically check the Drivers & Downloads pages.

My R12 is also stuck in update limbo. If it doesn't get the fix, it will be my last ever Dell.
