Same R10 Computer, Different Case - Alien Head Blinking Two Then One.

I had placed a R10 in a different case (a pyramid) some time back and wrote briefly about it in the forum. Worked great. However, I decided to move it yet again to another case. Mostly the same everything except a few more fans which can be unplugged. The big difference is the processor, an AMD Ryzen 5600G. Note the G. The other difference is no Lunar Light although I am using the button off a dark Side Of The Moon case. Is that what it is called? The black R10 case. A 2,1 flash is written to be “system board failure”. I doubt the system board failed. Additionally, the head color is yellow or amber.

SAME:

MB, RAM, PSU, FRONT PANEL, FRONT FAN, TOP FAN, EVGA COOLER, GPU AND HEAT SINKS - That all worked yesterday.
16GB RAM is in DIMM1.

Any ideas? Is it the G? I know the board cannot like make use of the G (on chip graphics) part.
Thank you.

The answer? Yes the R10 was not compatible with the 5600G. Swapping CPUs solved the issue.

@ProfessorW00d

"The best CPU because it is 65 watts . . . what kind of metric is that?"

Its the metric of the horrible cooling for the case and the default VRM heatsinks missing and and and and.

Adding the VRM heatsinks and the puny asetek 120MM AIO cooling means its not throttling all the time when you play games and its quieter than the fan under the power supply that cant breathe.

5700X also allows XMP with the OEM Ram in dual channel so theres a significant boost in performance. If you got a non 1000W unit with no vrm heatsinks and the air cooler you will know the difference immediately.   The other fix is moving the board to a new case which is doable its just a lot of work.

@VitalBodies

Neither APU 5600G or 5700G work on any Dell motherboard.

Best CPU is the 5700X because its 65W

None of the 5000 series works on the first revision of the board.

Validated OEM CPU =

@ProfessorW00d

The average user isnt going to be able to overcome moving to a new case. The parts can be had but its not easy to find them.  If you see them on amazon or ebay you should buy it now because they dont stay very long.  Other users will want step by step instructions on how to do that and this is not something I'm willing to entertain.

I did find a video that says it shows how.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YK4QubjUFOo

Myself however I'm keeping the original case because I'm not voiding the warranty status.

I actually own R10 units that were "upgraded" with 5700X CPU, AIO Cooler, VRM Heatsinks, 1000W power supply all Dell parts and the units work fine now.

Unlike before where it WAS an issue.  I also took the time to get matched sets of 1.2v ram because XMP in the R10 DOES NOT boost the ram to 1.35v meaning if your ram wont go up to 3200  1.2v its not working.

Moving to another case may be some work . . . but that is exactly what OP has done. For all we know they are rigged up in an Obsidian 1000D. Not every case is as stifling as the Aurora, and there are cooling solutions available. I have a 165 watt CPU in an Alienware that idles 2C over ambient.

Speedstep, thanks for the heads up on processors. I ended up with a 5800X and that fixed the problem. I should have known that the G processor might not work, knowing how picky these are. This R10 system has the 1000w PSU and the Dell heat sinks. I moved the system from a Pyramid case to a Lian Li O11 Dynamic. Such a nice case I must say. A system builder/upgrader enthusiast case. The Pyramid case is awesome to but harder for new builders and more limited for sure, but you go into a case like that knowing that. I upgraded the MB, Ram, Liquid Cooler and PowerSupply in that pyramid system. Pretty much a total rebuild. The factory R10 case is a case in point as you know. A 120 cooler and one 120 fan on a gaming system (or 3D rendering) could never really work well at the mid to high end of the processor or GPU line it is made for. The 5800X will do fine as I now have 6 fans instead of two. I could add way more but I likely do not need to.

Drop some photos of the new rig . . . if you don't mind. That sounds very interesting.

Thank you for asking.
Here is the earlier case swap: VitalBodies Case Swap.

As I mentioned, I am moving from the Azza Pyramid case to a Dynamic because I upgraded the Azza. The new rig is “a work in process” as you saw from this post/thread. Not quite “ready for prime time” yet. Getting closer. Passed the pre-boot level fan tests and no errors although I had to make some adjustments as the R10 motherboard likes what it likes... I will try to add some photos when it is ready. This will be a budget build, not an over the top luxury build, which hopefully you can relate to. Nice though, a solid upgrade over the stock case.
